"The quickest way to feel good is to do something for someone else. Volunteering for Allara Creative not only makes me feel good, but also I meet some fantastic people."
Allara Creative volunteer
Allara Creative's volunteer mentor program is a vital component of our two employment programs for refugees in Canberra. All our employees are matched with a volunteer mentor to practice English, answer any questions, help provide employment search support, and more! Employees meet one-to-one with mentors so you get to know each other well and make a real difference.

Use your skills for good!
- Help our employees from refugee backgrounds improve their English skills
- Build connections and make Canberra feel like home
- Support career growth by helping with job applications and CVs
- (coming soon) Mentor and assist a learner driver to obtain their P-plate driver's licence
FAQs for Volunteers

What do I need in order to volunteer?
No previous mentoring experience is required as we provide resources and support. If you do not have one, you will need to apply for an ACT Government Working With Vulnerable People's card, but you do not need to have one before you reach out to us.
What is the time commitment?
You would meet with your mentee one-on-one at least six times (for a total of at least six hours). Most people meet about once a fortnight. Following these six sessions, you can continue meeting with your mentee, let us know you'd like to be rematched, or take a break - it's always up to you!
I don't think mentoring is for me, can I offer other skills?
Absolutely! As a social enterprise, we invest 100% of our profits back into our organisation. With all our heart and soul going into our products and our employees, we are grateful for the volunteer support we receive in other areas necessary to run a successful business. If you have a skill that you think we could use, please reach out - we'd love to hear from you!
Are you currently accepting new volunteers?
We have rolling applications, so in short, yes! The first step is for us (Ruth and Jess) to meet with you and get to know you a bit so that we can pair you with a mentee who you'll get along with. We don't always have available mentees, but we will let you know if that's the case.
